Terms of Service
In short: Use Course Compass honestly and within your school's rules. It's a powerful planning tool, but it doesn't replace your official academic advisor. Subscriptions renew until you cancel.
1. Acceptance of these terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a contract between you and Course Compass and govern your use of our website and apps (the "Services"). By creating an account or using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Services.
2. Accounts & eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to use the Services, and old enough to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction. You're responsible for the accuracy of your account information and for keeping your login credentials secure. You're responsible for all activity under your account.
3. Plans & billing
Course Compass offers several options:
- Pay Per Plan ($2.99) is a one-time purchase for a single plan, with no subscription.
- Premium ($4.99/month) and Pro ($9.99/month) are recurring subscriptions billed monthly.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel anytime, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Prices may change with notice. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to misuse the Services. In particular, you won't:
- Break the law or infringe others' rights while using the Services.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, scrape, or disrupt the Services.
- Share your account or resell access without our permission.
- Upload content you don't have the right to share.
5. Academic disclaimer
Course Compass is a planning and information tool. While we build plans from real catalog data and validate requirements, the Services are provided for guidance only and do not replace your official academic advisor or your school's authoritative records. Always confirm important decisions, such as registration and graduation requirements, with your institution before acting.
6. AI tools & academic integrity
Our AI Detector and Humanizer are designed to help you review and improve your own work. You are responsible for following your school's academic integrity policies. Don't use the Services to misrepresent authorship or to violate your institution's rules.
7. Third-party data
Some content, such as professor ratings, tuition figures, and job listings, comes from third-party sources. We work to keep it accurate but don't guarantee it, and it's subject to the originating sources' terms. Catalog and requirement data may change; we update it regularly but can't promise it's always current.
8. Intellectual property
The Services, including our software, design, and content, are owned by Course Compass and protected by intellectual-property laws. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Services for your personal, non-commercial academic planning. You keep ownership of the content you upload, and grant us the rights needed to operate the Services.
9. Disclaimers & limitation of liability
The Services are provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Course Compass is not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for decisions you make based on the Services. Our total liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
10. Termination
You can stop using the Services and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access if you violate these Terms or use the Services in a way that could harm others or us. Some provisions, by their nature, survive termination.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we make material changes, we'll update the date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the Services after changes take effect means you accept the revised Terms.
